Mark Mason is a world class photographer and a writer with a unique background. With little
formal training and no agency representation Mark has continued to work steadily in the US
and abroad. From photographic essays on the Kurdish rebellion in southeastern Turkey to
womens relief programs in Afghanistan, Mason has used his true to life approach to
create a portfolio that makes one feel as if you are experiencing the moments as they were
captured. He has literally worked his way to becoming a seasoned professional.
Mason boasts a clientele as diverse as his talents. His recent humanitarian assignments
for CARE International, Save the Children, and the International Rescue Committee have
taken him to the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Central America. His stateside projects
keep him busy between trips overseas. Whether it be aerial photography for the Washington
State Department of Transportation or shooting annual reports for his corporate accounts,
Mark is in high demand.
He recent showings of India and Afghanistan were well received. In both projects Mark
immersed himself in the lives of the locals a delivered the work from an uncommon
perspective. His articles and anecdotes on his experiences while working throughout those
regions were published regularly in papers in the Puget Sound area.
Another avenue of interest is bodybuilding and fitness photography. He is the official
photographer for the Northwest Bodybuilding Championships, the Rocky Mountain States and
the Pacific Coast Championships. His photos have appeared in almost every major fitness
magazine.
Future plans include a grant to photograph the plight of Afghanistans Koochi
People, a compilation of his work to be published in a book entitled Smiles From Around
The World, and original screen play that centers on the Kurdish conflict.
Mark makes his home in Seattle, Washington where he lives with his daughter, Echo.
